hardFlagship Warrumbungle day walk from Pincham carpark. NPWS lists 14.5 km loop, Grade 4, 5–6 hours. Spirey Creek to Spirey Ramp (many steps) past the Breadknife, then High Tops camps and a West Spirey return. No drinking water on track. Trip Intention and free PLB hire recommended.

Read this before you pack the car
- Summer heat is real — park record 42.6 °C. Carry 2–3+ L on Grade 4 days.
- Post-2013 fire trees still drop limbs — do not camp or sit under large trees in wind.
- Limited mobile reception — Emergency+, Trip Intention, free PLB hire at the Visitor Centre.
- $8 vehicle tickets/fees ≠ free camping; NPWS bookings only for park sites.
- From Sydney this is a long day — plan an overnight. Dubbo flights + car hire are the regional hop.

Arrive via Coonabarabran, pay vehicle entry, Visitor Centre + free map, then Fans Horizon from Pincham (3.6 km return, Grade 3, 1000+ steps). Optional Whitegum or Wambelong Nature if energy remains. No Breadknife stack.

Is there an entry fee for Warrumbungle National Park?
Vehicle day entry is $8 per vehicle per day as published on NSW National Parks (re-checked 15 August 2026) — [VERIFY] live. Pedestrians and cyclists are free. Annual passes cover vehicle entry only and never cover camping. Camping is a separate NPWS booking. This site never affiliates park entry or official camping.
Can I do the Breadknife as a first walk?
Only if the group is fit and used to steep steps. Official stats for Breadknife & Grand High Tops are about 14.5 km, Grade 4, 5–6 hours. Fans Horizon (same Pincham carpark, ~3.6 km return, Grade 3) is the better first walk for mixed or less-experienced parties. Always [VERIFY] distance, grade and open status on NPWS.
How far is it from Sydney?
Treat it as a long drive, not a casual day trip. Most groups need roughly six hours-plus each way [VERIFY] via Dubbo / the Newell, plus park time. Many overnight in Coonabarabran or Dubbo. Dubbo has the nearest regular flights and car hire. A same-day Sydney return usually fails.
Is mobile reception reliable?
No. Official visitor info stresses limited mobile reception throughout the park. Triple Zero (000) needs a working mobile path. Download Emergency+, leave a Trip Intention Form, and hire a free PLB at the Visitor Centre for longer walks. A satellite messenger is optional only — this site does not invent carrier maps.
