About this guide

warrumbunglenationalpark.com.au is an independent, unofficial visitor guide. We help people plan walks, Dark Sky nights, camping, stays and tours in and around Warrumbungle National Park, NSW — with a practical focus on the Breadknife and Grand High Tops, Fans Horizon, vehicle entry versus camping bookings, heat, post-2013 trees and limited-reception self-reliance.

We are not NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), the NSW Government, Destination NSW, Warrumbungle Shire Council, Gilgandra Shire Council, Coonamble Shire Council, Siding Spring Observatory, the Gamilaraay (Kamilaroi), Weilwan (Wayilwan) or Wiradjuri peoples, or any commercial accommodation or tour operator unless explicitly stated.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Warrumbungle Country — the Gamilaraay (Kamilaroi), Weilwan (Wayilwan) and Wiradjuri peoples — and their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. The name “Warrumbungle” is a Gamilaraay word commonly translated as “crooked mountains.” This site does not speak for Traditional Owner groups or for NSW National Parks, and it does not invent Dreaming stories. Verify current acknowledgment wording on official NSW National Parks pages before treating any phrase as authoritative.

Help people plan Warrumbungle days and overnights safely — Breadknife and Grand High Tops, Fans Horizon, Dark Sky Park nights, heat and post-2013 tree hazards, vehicle entry versus camping bookings, and what to do when the phone has no bars — while funding free guides through clearly disclosed ads and affiliates. Park camping and official NPWS bookings are never affiliated.

How we work (accuracy policy)

We pull park facts from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), check access notes against Coonabarabran, Gilgandra and Coonamble approaches, walk metrics and camping rules against official pages, then write plain advice you can use. We do not invent live track status, guaranteed open/closed claims, climbing registration as fixed law, or fee tables as permanent fact.

  • Distances, grades, fees and open/closed status must be verified on official NPWS pages before you travel. We never invent live closures.
  • Site-wide content review date: . Individual pages may note the same stamp.
  • This site does not publish a public contact email — see Contact for official park phones and site expectations.

Images & attribution

Primary site photos are real photographs from Wikimedia Commons (Creative Commons), used with attribution under images where shown. We adapt images for web display (resize/compress); attribution still applies. They are not official NPWS photography and may not match exact current track conditions — always verify on site. Full author / licence / source table: Disclaimer · photo credits. Stay-page cards are place context only — not specific hotels.

Advertising & affiliates

The site may display advertising and affiliate links (stays, tours, gear) to fund free content. Disclosures appear on relevant pages and in the affiliate disclosure. Park fees, permits and official NSW National Parks bookings are never affiliated.

National Parks Guide Australia network

This is one deep park guide (Warrumbungle) in the National Parks Guide Australia network of independent visitor guides. The visitor-facing hub is nationalparksguide.com.au — browse the full directory, multi-park “best for” collections and how the network works. The publisher behind the network remains Farming Domains (see above); the hub is how travellers find other parks.

Warrumbungle sits on hub collections for trips that are not a capital day-trip, and for honest “how long do I need?” planning — volcanic Grade 4 heat days and Dark Sky overnights, not a two-hour cliff lookout from Sydney.

A short, relevant set for Warrumbungle planners — inland ranges and other NSW parks, not the full network. Complete list on the hub.
