Where to stay near Warrumbungle National Park

Prioritise official NSW National Parks camping when that product fits — Dark Sky nights are better from a booked camp than from a late motel improvisation. Commercial beds belong in gateway towns: Coonabarabran first, then Gilgandra, Tooraweenah, Coonamble or Dubbo (flights / car hire). Official park camping: NSW National Parks — camping & accommodation.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees and official NPWS camping bookings are never affiliated.

NPWS campgrounds in Warrumbungle National Park

Vehicle-based: Camp Blackman (largest, powered/unpowered, showers, toilets, BBQs, public phone — family favourite when open), Camp Wambelong, Camp Walaay (group). Walk-in / remote: Camp Pincham, Balor Hut, Burbie, Hurleys, Dows, Ogma Gap, Gunneemooroo, Danu and others when listed. Confirm live sites, facilities and rates on the booking page — never treat this paragraph as inventory.

  • Book only on nationalparks.nsw.gov.au (or 1300 072 757) — not through this site
  • Vehicle day entry ($8/day VERIFY) still applies on top of camping — two separate systems
  • Some remote sites have a booking fee even when camping is otherwise unpriced (Burbie $6 booking fee — NPWS, re-checked 15 Aug 2026; [VERIFY])
  • Do not camp under large post-2013 trees in wind · fuel stoves preferred on fire-ban days
  • Dark-sky etiquette: red light, no white floods across ridgelines

Choose a base by intent

Match the bed to tomorrow’s trailhead. Official park camping is never affiliated — book Camp Blackman on NPWS only. Commercial beds are gateway towns.

Families / Dark Sky night

Book Camp Blackman (NPWS) when that product fits, or a Coonabarabran bed for showers and an early Visitor Centre morning. Do not treat $8 vehicle entry as camping.

Breadknife dawn start

Coonabarabran or a booked park camp. Gilgandra/Tooraweenah are southern-approach bases. Dubbo is flights and car hire — still a real drive to Pincham.

Last fuel / medical

Last reliable fuel and food: Coonabarabran (Gilgandra on Tourist Drive 1). Emergencies 000— limited park reception is official. Larger hospital culture is Dubbo.

Gateway towns (Booking.com)

Match the town to tomorrow’s trailhead. Dubbo is a hub, not a substitute for Coonabarabran on a Breadknife morning. Commercial stays are not park-managed. Card photos are real Wikimedia Commons images for place context — not the specific hotels on Booking.com.
